CHARLOTTE, NC - Nationwide Series regular Morgan Shepherd wasn’t one of the first five inductees into NASCAR’s Hall of Fame, but Shepherd and his family did have a great time at Sunday’s ceremonies in Charlotte.
The Shepherd family was part of a NASCAR crowd of about 1,000 people who filled the Charlotte Convention Center to take part in the hour-long official ceremony to induct Richard Petty, Dale Earnhardt, Junior Johnson, Bill France Sr. and Bill France Jr. into the newly-opened hall.
Shepherd entered the event riding his second most recognizable set of wheels. While his #89 Racing With Jesus Chevolet wasn’t part of the ceremony, Shepherd did sport his trademarked roller skates with flashing wheels for the waiting crowd of fans.
“We all had a great time,” said Shepherd’s daughter Cindy Shepherd Caldwell. “It was a wonderful event and the fan’s loved dad and his skating.”
The first induction ceremony came just over a week after the opening of the spectacular new Hall of Fame museum in downtown Charlotte. The event followed five years of planning and construction.
The facility is now open to the public year round.
